PS3 Media Server

Postby uslacker » Thu Mar 10, 2011 8:32 pm

I recently got PS3 Media Server running on Amahi. PMS is a transcoding DLNA server that I needed to serve video and media streams to my Sony Bravia and PS3. There is detail on how to do the same here. Let me know how it works for you.

This app has been packaged for Amahi already.

Have you tried it? It is not live, however we are looking for help testing it. If it is not working correctly, maybe your experience with installing it manually can contribute to making it work.

No, sorry, I haven't. I don't recall seeing it. I'll try to find some time this weekend to get into the irc, or if you want to add me to beta, plz do. Amahi user is slacker.

Thanks.

Thanks. Appreciate anything you can do to help test this one. You have been added to the app.

I've been running this for a while outside of Amahi as a Fedora desktop app. I'd be willing to test it as an Amahi app if possible.

I learned this morning there is an official Amahi beta. I don't want to derail their testing, so I suggest you ask bigfoot65 in IRC to let you test.

Thanks for the follow up though. How does it work for you?

My HDA is headless so I start vncserver via putty then use vnc viewer for access. Once at the desktop I simply start ps3mediaserver and let it run. It works quite well. I have a mix of video formats (none HD) and it transcodes reasonably well for an old P4 2 GHz processor. I have a Samsung TV and a Sony Bravia. ps3mediaserver v412 has configuration files for both so there was only minor tweaking needed.

That worked for me as well, but I wanted config that ran at startup. I want my wife to be able to stream without me and I will invariably forget to start it at the wrong time.

Yeah, I looked into that. There's some posts on the ps3mediaserver forums that talk about setting it up to autostart as a service but I couldn't get it to work. Just too much trouble.

Here's a link to another DLNA/UPnP media streamer I've discovered.

http://www.tvmobili.com

It runs as a service similar to Amahi DLNA. I'm playing around with it now. So far I can't tell that it's any better than Amahi.

Hi there

I'd also be interested in testing this out.
I tried the link above but could see how to install the ps3server.

Could you add me to the list please?

cheers
