Hello,
I don't know if it is a Amahi Server problem or a Hardware problem, but i will try to explain what's going on.
In fact, when i try to copy one or more files from my Amahi Server to my Machine, the copy process is very slow. But if i copy data from my Machine to the Server, it is fast.
Server config:
System: Fedora 12 + Amahi
An older PC, AMD 1 GHz processor
512 MB Ram
1 IDE HDD 120 GB with Fedora 12 + Amahi on it, connected on board
1 SATA HDD 1,5TB connected on a PCI SATA Controller containing all the data and Amahi shares
1 SATA HDD 1,5TB connected on the same PCI SATA Controller used as backup HDD
100MBit Network Card.
Greyhole is not used.
My PC:
System: Windows 7 Ultimate
AMD 3500+ processor
2GB RAM
1 SATA HDD 200GB + 1 SATA HDD 500GB connected on board
1GBit Network Card.
Both are connected on a 100MBit switch.
When i copy a big file, lets say 1GB to a shared drive on the server, i get a transfer rate between 7 and 10 MByte/s, what is a normal rate.
When i copy back the same file, i am on my machine accessing the share, from the server to my machine i get a transfer rate between 300 and 400 kByte/s what is not a normal rate.
What i did not try yet is beeing on the server and copying a file from there to a share on my machine.
Share access is very fast, the folders display very quickly.
So my question is, is there a problem on the server, did i miss something when installing the server? Why do i have a normal rate when copying files to the server and not copying back the file again.$
I have tried some tweaks on my windows 7 machine, i have also disabled my antivirus, but nothing worked.
If someone has an idea or has the same problems.
Getting data from Server slow
Re: Getting data from Server slow
I have seen and read about some problems with transfer rates and Windows 7. Not specific to Amahi, but in general.
You might consider a restart of your entire network, powered down to all on. It could be a multitude of things, but strange that is only one direction that is the issue.

Re: Getting data from Server slow
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. After having done some tests, i have found out that the problem is not on the network, because copying data from the IDE drive was about 8-10MB/s. Normal transfer.
The problem is probably on the PCI SATA Controller, because copying data from one SATA HDD to the other on the server has a speed of 3-5 MB/s, which should be very faster than that.
Now the problem is to know if the Controller is broken, will get a new one in the next days, if the motherboard is too old and not supporting the controller, or if it is a driver problem on fedora.
What i will try now is to update Fedora from 12 to 14, and do an Amahi update too, and check if that changes sthg.

Re: Getting data from Server slow
I have not done an update do Fedora 14, but did the first part of the update -> yum -y update
After this had completed, i rebooted the machine and did a copy test again, and i had better results, in fact from SATA to SATA i have now between 15 and 20 MB/s.
On the Network i reach 7 MB/s, which is also a good rate compared to the 300kB/s I had before.
There was something that fixed the speed problem, but i still do not have a SATA performance. It could be the old Hardware i am using.
This has nothing really to do with Amahi, but if someone has an idea or knows how to tweak the HDD speed.
