Hi,
I'm new to Amahi and I'm coming from WHS v1. There are a couple of things that WHS has that I'm not sure Amahi has got. I have tried searching but can't find a specific answer.
1. WHS allows me to connect to my PCs at home. WebVNC works great for the server but can I use that interface to connect to other machines (like the screen in WHS). Can you use WebVNC to do this? Am I being stupid? Obviously I know the WHS uses a client connector, but as Amamhi is the DNS server I should be able to VNC using the machine name anyway (as long as the desktop is running a VNC server package).
2. There is a great plugin for WHS that allows SMART monitoring of the drives. Is there anything similar in Amahi? I noticed Cacti was a plugin - can it be done that way?
Amahi is a great product and coming from a ReadyNAS pro too (rooted etc), I wish I'd looked into it ages ago!
Thanks in advance
Amahi from WHS
Re: Amahi from WHS
Yes, this can be done via VPN or using the Amahi App OpenVPN ALS. VPN is setup by default in Amahi. You can use HDAConnect on Windows clients as well.1. WHS allows me to connect to my PCs at home. As for VNC, it is possible to remote in or use Remote Desktop with some manual configuration.
This is done by default in Amahi. When you choose the Storage tab, there is an option to view the installed Disks and it will show the drive and temperature. More detailed SMART monitoring information is available with the Amahi app phpSysInfo or Linfo (which is in Beta testing).2. Hope this answers your questions. I think you will find Amahi is a great replacement for Windows Home Server, especially the Greyhole app which performs much like the Drive Extender feature.
