How to access web apps from a lan PC

Postby nomikos » Sun Jan 30, 2011 7:21 am

Hi! I'm trying to access phpSysInfo from a PC connected to the same lan as the HDA, but am not successful. The URL listed on the phpSysInfo app is http://phpSysInfo, but I try to use http://192.168.1.8/phpSysInfo which only shows the amahi standard interface... no app interface. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hello,

You use the short URL, http://phpsysinfo. Amahi DNS makes it all work, but using the IP and phpsysinfo will not.

You need to use Amahi as your DNS server to access apps this way.

ok, but what if I have Amahi on LAN that already has dns, dhcp and other servers. I'd like to set Amahi to some fixed ip and still access installed apps, but I just can't find a shortcut how to do that. I plan to setup/test AMAHI and then transfer it to other LAN where it will be main dns, dhcp server...

Any way to access installed apps via IP or any other way beside short URLs ? Must admit, that this is not so great feature that you can't access installed apps if Amahi doesn't "take over" all your LAN....

Thanks in advance,

regards,

Bulek.

Amahi is not intended to be on a network with an existing DHCP and DNS server. There are some things which will not work.

See http://www.amahi.org/faq#is-dhcp-server-required for more info.

Thanks for info.
I'd like to go with option stated in faq (using HDA as DNS server) :
Your Amahi HDA-provided domain will not work inside your own network. This means short URLs will not work in this configuration. Please use the long form url (with the full domain name you chose for your network).
I've setup my laptop's network settings to dns of HDA. What is "the long form URL" to access hda's apps ?

Thanks in advance,
regards,
Bulek.

Long form URL is appname.domain.com. For example, phpsysinfo.home.com.
