That alone shouldn't start a second greyhole daemon.
There was a bug in greyhole init.d script that sometimes made it report the daemon was offline, when it was in fact running. Maybe the version running on Amahi currently has this bug.
Upcoming updates will fix that.

I just checked, and the Amahi version of Greyhole already has that bugfix.

I think monit (the watchdog) restarted Greyhole when it shouldn't have.
Could you please attach here all the /var/log/monit* files you have ?

You can create an archive of all those log files like this:

this morning I experienced a similar problem. Files copied to a share didn't show up but were moved straigt to the attic. I found this thread when I searched for " Failed file copy. Will mark this tombstone 'Gone'. " and then discovered that there were also two greyhole daemons running on my machine. Sorry I didn't write down the PIDs. The problem occured only this morning after starting the machine at around 11:06. Note that I restarted HDA on 11:46.

I have uploaded my monit file from yesterday and today to here: http://paste.amahi.org/d4c164cfc. There are a lot of lines saying "monit: Error reading pid from file '/var/run/greyhole.pid'" - are these related to the problem?

If this happens to anyone else, I'd also need the /var/log/boot.log, and excerpt from greyhole.log:

Your Amahi auto-updates seems to be broken.
Amahi is supposed to check every hour for new hda* packages versions, and install anything it finds.
hda-greyhole is now at 0.8.4 in the Amahi repository, so all Amahi installs should have this version installed (automatically).
You should update it manually ASAP, as the version you're running is buggy, then you should look into why it didn't update itself automatically.
