Amahi is deleting my files...?!

Postby brendanrichman » Mon Dec 13, 2010 6:24 pm

I copied an 8gb DVD ISO image to my Movies share on my HDA...seemed to work fine, started playing it on VLC without a hitch.

I watched 10 minutes of the DVD to see if it could play such a large file over a wireless network (it can), but then when I exited VLC the file was gone - no trace of it ever being there!

I tried accessing the share on another machine, which it could, but the file still wasn't there. Why has Amahi deleted the file? I appreciate it could have been moved from landing to the pool, but after an hour or so with no disk activity it's still not there!

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance.

I'll be guessing that you have the Uses Pool enable for your share.
Try this:

Code: Select all

greyhole --debug "filename_that_disappeared"
Also see the sticky topic in this forum. It has instructions on how to provide the information we might need to help you.

I did the pool enabled for the share, yes.

I don't quite remember what it said, but when running that command it said something about everything was fine. I ran a few other commands on that sticky, and they said everything was fine.

All in all, I have come to conclusion that since Greyhole is still infantile, I probably shouldn't use it for important data that would kill me if lost. Although I have to admit, I'm still very intrigued! I'll keep an eye open for new released and important milestones!

Guess it's back to WHS for the foreseeable future!

Thanks for your help!

I'm not sure how anyone but me could assert that the information given by --debug, or most of the commands mentioned in the sticky, could mean that Greyhole is working fine, or where a particular problem comes from.
But if you don't have the time or don't want to debug further, that's fine.

I wouldn't call Greyhole infantile; it's 1 year-old now, and I've been using it myself to host 8TB of videos, some 70k digital pictures, CrashPlan backups, and some documents. I've never lost anything during all this time.

FYI, Greyhole is currently tagged v0.8 (Amahi is still using 0.7 though).
v0.9 should fix all the rename bugs Greyhole had / has / would have using the current implementation, then v1.0 should come soon after than, when I'm certain 0.9 did indeed resolve all the issues we have with renames.

All of this in no way guarantees that the issue you're having now will be fixed at any point in the future, since I have no information to use to resolve it, if it is indeed a GH bug.
