I currently use a Netgear router, and one of the very cool features of Netgears home routers is that you can pin an IP address and MAC together, this way the device always gets the same IP address. To this effect I always assign addresses by DHCP (since its quick and easy to setup and use on the client) but then go into the router and permanently affix that IP address to the new device.
Is there a way to the have the Amahi DHCP server work in the same way?
Static IP's from DHCP
Re: Static IP's from DHCP
Yes, i is in the settings tab. Then go to networking and you will see an area for static IPs. Works the same way, ip and mac address.

Re: Static IP's from DHCP
I was curious about the option of using Amahi as my default DHCP server and feared that assigning static IP by MAC address wouldn't be available. Now that I know it can, it seems like nothing is stopping me from switching. Just one more reason to use Amahi as your DHCP server.
Re: Static IP's from DHCP
I'm having some trouble getting this to work using Amahi's DHCP server. I've used the Networking->Static IPs page to set up 3 machines with static IPs, assigning them addresses 97-99. The problem is that when I release/renew the IPs on the machines that are supposed to receive static assignments, they get assigned random IPs in the 100+ range, seemingly ignoring the static assignment.
I've triple checked that the MAC addresses and hostnames are correct, in fact copy/pasting them from the Networking->DHCP page over to the Networking->Static IPs page before release/renewing the machines in question. So I'm at a bit of a loss as to what I might be doing wrong. Or even what additional information would be helpful in solving it.

Re: Static IP's from DHCP
Check the MAC addresses to ensure there is no leading or trailing spaces. I found that when I copied them, it would add a space. That caused me a similar issue.

Re: Static IP's from DHCP
Thanks for the quick response! It looks like that was indeed the culprit.
As a side note, it didn't seem to work at first; releasing and renewing on a static IP client after eliminating the spaces resulted in the same 100+ IP being assigned. But once I rebooted the HDA, and released and renewed again, THEN it picked it up properly.
Thanks again!
