HI all,
Thanks in advance for your help. I'm certainly no linux guru.. and installed amahi only for the first time yesterday. Running on a 2.2Ghz AMD Athlon 64 3500+. installed from Fedora12 DVD x86_64
My goal is a headless server which I can access via VNC. I've followed the instructions here:
http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/VNC and now have a working vnc server and client.
Problem is.. I need to login on the "headless" (not headless just yet...) server before VNC will work. Otherwise I get a "host not found" error. I'll admit I dont really understand that, because if I log in with ssh at any time and check "service vncserver status" it always seems to be running. so the vncserver seems to be active in all runlevels.. but I just cannot login whilst the amahi server is sitting at the login screen.
First I tried changing /etc/gdm/custom.conf to include the AutoLogin and TimedLogin lines, but that didnt seem to have any effect at all - autologin did not occur.
After a few hours mucking around.. I realised I could boot to runlevel 3, then login via ssh, and "startx" which would start a "logged in" xsession. But if if I try and connect via vnc at that point, I get a dialogue on the headless server about "gnome remote desktop" asking for "default keyring access". Which thwarted that effort.
Any direction would be much appreciated.. I'm a little lost.
VNC .. auto login?
Re: VNC .. auto login?
I guess my situation has been resolved.. but I did not solve the problem.
I essentially realised that I dont need vnc, as "ssh -X hda" will allow me to run GUI apps on the amahi server.
Thanks for reading!

Re: VNC .. auto login?
I have just updated the wiki for VNC on how I have been configuring VNC on Centos and Fedora for years.
I welcome you to review my changes and comment.

Nice... thanks a bunch - I'll give it a shot when I get home tonight.
