Ushare using up disk space with virtual copies?

Postby jbmia » Sun Nov 14, 2010 8:24 pm

Currently testing Amahi/Greyhole to potentially replace WHS. Running 40gb system disk (not in storage pool) + 2 250g & 1 Tb in the storage pool.

Ushare seems to put copies of files into "/var/hda/apps/ushare/files" taking up a great deal of space.

According to this thread: http://forums.amahi.org/viewtopic.php?f ... pies#p1527,
they are not copies but virtual files.

Yet, in Phpsysinfo, that directory shows as:
"var/hda/apps/ushare/files 94% (8%) 514.89 MiB 32.76 GiB 35.04 GiB"
94% full with 32.75gb used.

This seems a bit odd, if they truly are "virtual" files...

I stumbled into this as I was trying to copy large HD files into my storage pool with the system prompting me that there is not enough space. Yet, I have 1.4Tb in the pool unused. The system drive on the other hand, only has 2.4gb available due to the the ushare files folder using up 32.75 gb of space with it's "virtual" files...

See what I"m getting at... If the files are virtual..why use up the space... I'm assuming I'm getting my copy to storage pool error because there's not enough space in the Landing Zone...

Can anyone confirm or deny ?

Thanks.

JB

So after going through the files more carefully, the files appear to be "symbolic links".

The issue with disk usage appears to be coming from Transmission bittorrent files. As I went through to delete the files to free up space. All the files I deleted that arose from normal shares (e.g., Movies) were symbolic links. But, other files, from a new share I created titled "torrents" were not symbolic links. It put actual copies of these files in the /var/hda/apps/ushare/files directory. As I deleted them, the warning prompt indicated they were "regular files" as opposed to symbolic.

So, at this point I'm not sure if this is a ushare thing, a Greyhole thing, or a Transmission thing.

I can confirm that my default download folder in Transmission is /var/hda/files/torrents. The "torrents" folder is assigned to the storage pool, but when i browse the the gh folders of the disks in the storage pool, none of the 3 of them have any of these files or a "torrents" folder in them.

Any thoughts on why greyhole is not populating these files into the storage pool? And, why are the actual files ending up in /var/hda/apps/files instead of symbolic links like they should be?

Oh, and by the way, as I went through and deleted these files (both regular & symbolic links) (which I though were dups) in /var/hda/apps/ushare/files, they were deleted from /var/hda/files/torrents and from /var/hda/files/movies as well... Thank god I'm just testing this out..

Would appreciate some guidance here.. smell like a bug somewhere to me, but maybe I'm doing something wrong..

Perhaps this should be moved to another forum folder.. not sure how to do that.. perhaps a mod could evaluate that...

Sounds like a Greyhole issue. It is the one making symbolic links. Best to post your issue in the Greyhole area. The author is quick to reply and usually has a solution.
