Postby bijan588 » Sat Nov 13, 2010 11:44 am

Well the fan on my PIII server is about as good as dead. 120RPM is the fastest it wil trun

Are there any risk's involved in leaving it like that? Its clocked at 1ghz(stock)

The important question is how hot is the CPU getting?

You only need high fan speed if the temperature is too high.

Have you checked the temperature with lm-sensors?

Sometimes the bios has a page that shows the current temperature (they are all so different, I can't tell you where to look.)

Did you try installing lm_sensors? (sudo yum install lm_sensors)
If so, just type the 'sensors' command, and it should print out the temperature(s) it can detect.
