Hi,
I am currently running UnRAID on an HP micro server.
Recently i decided to change my setup to amahi with greyhole.
Now, because i already have 5 drives on my HP micro server, i am considering getting a 4TB USB3 drive and use it externally as part of the pool.
I know in theory a USB 3 drive suppose to be very fast , and will not lower the performance of the array.
but i have no idea how it will preform in "real life".
any thoughts ?
will an external drive slow my pool down?
Re: will an external drive slow my pool down?
Quite honestly I don't know. Only way to find out is try it
Guess you could check online to see if there is anything that might indicate a change is performance.

Before you do that, read this: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1906816Hi,

To summarise:
- 5.25" to 2x 3.5" bracket
- eSata to sata x1 route one of the hdds in the ODD to the esata slot at the back
- Sata cable x1 for the other HDD in the ODD to the internal sata. I've been reading that you'll need a right angled one, but others have also mentioned that a normal one will work fine too
- molex to 2x sata power to power both HDD's in the ODD
- Finally The Bay's BIOS to enable AHCI on the internal sata port (just make sure it is enabled in the BIOS). Mind you this BIOS was originally designed or the N36L but all reports are this works perfectly fine.
And this is my server atm w/ 6 drives.
