SOLVED: network is unreachable

Postby hemington1 » Mon Aug 26, 2013 7:29 am

After a short power outage I no longer have a connection to the internet/network. I have restarted the hda a few times and no connection is made. I am unable to start the desktop app. Any ideas on where I should look for errors and what should I be looking for?
It is a wired connection to my router.
Thanks.

This could be as simple and ensuring your modem or router are still setup correctly. Perhaps the power outage shocked some setting to be wrong.

Run thru the amahi network troubleshooter after trying to get internet from your modem to a computer directly.

Thanks sg.
I followed the trouble shooting guide, and it confirmed my DHCP is dead.
System log tells me the dhcp interface does not exists.
Settings for eth0 on the server and also the router are correct.
The light is on for the network card.
Are there any settings in the bios that I need to check for errors?

well your router or your HDA may not be dispatching DHCP addresses. There's numerous troubleshooting with your home network to do before your HDA is at fault...

if the troubleshooter says your DHCP is dead... try restarting the DHCP service.

Thanks sg.
HDA is not at fault, all settings are as they should be. All queries for the network card state not installed and I cannot start the network service because of this. I also ran a live Ubuntu 12.04 cd and it stated no network available.
I suspect a dead network card. It may have received a power surge over the cat 5 cable.
I will replace with a new pci card over the weekend.
I miss my HDA!!!!!!! It's been running for almost a year now.
Many thanks.

A new gigabit network pci card solved the issue.
I changed the description to eth0 and all is working as it should.
