removed drive and LZ by accident: files dissapeared

Postby kikkegek » Wed Aug 14, 2013 2:26 pm

hi there
I want to know something about the LZ
I have removed a drive from the greyhole storage pool by using the --going command
everything went fine
command finished
greyhole removed the drive from the pool
I then removed the drive from /etc/fstab/ and rebooted
suddenly all my files in the shares dissapeared. shares were accesible though, just seemed empty.

I now found that my LZ for all the shares was on the drive I removed.

in the mean time I had started a -fsck

when I check the greyhole.log I see greyhole is checking and rebuilding
[jochen@localhost ~]$ tail /var/log/greyhole.log

wil this fix it? or will I loose files?

As long as there were copies on the other drive, you should be ok. Otherwise you will lose files.

You might have to pull copies from the drive you removed otherwise. If you have not already done so, recommend you check out the LZ info in the wiki. It explains where it is, how it works, and how to move it.

thank god! for a great fool-proff Greyhole system....hahahaha...

this morning the -fsck had finished and all files are back.

Might be a good idea to point people at the LZ part of de wiki just as a reminder when they remove a hard drive, to check wether their LZ is on the drive they are removing. Since the wiki states the LZ would be best at the biggest drive in the system That might at one time "not" be the biggest drive on the system. well. just a thought.

Right now my new LZ seems to be on the SSD, which is only a partition of 30GB. So I am gonna move it to the biggest drive this morning.

thanks for the super support and GREAT AMAHI7...you guys rock!

Glad to hear it's sorted out. Greyhole is a great program. It's always a good idea to RTM when doing something as advanced as this. I often refer people to the wiki for many things as it's a great repository of guidance.
