I want to move from 6 to 7 2nite and have this question.
This is my cirrent setup:
HDA1: AMAHI 6.2
750GB main drive with OS partition and all other partitions.
later added a 1TB drive and added it to the greyhole pool.
HDA2: AMAHI 7 (express install).
KINGSTON 8GB USB DRIVE with complete installation on it.
tested it and works!
I now want to take the hard drives from HDA1 and plug them into the HDA2.
boot the system.
add the drives to the greyhole pool again using the wiki https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Reconn ... orage_pool
then when everything is up and running, I want to remove SWAP, OS and other partitions from the 1TB drive and add that space to the greyhole pool from the HDA2 too!
and finally I would like to replace the 8GB USB drive by a 40GB SSD I bought to give the OS more room for optimal performance.
I can use all the advise you guys can give me!
moving from AMAHI6 to AMAHI7
Re: moving from AMAHI6 to AMAHI7
- setup the OS drive on the Amahi7 machine first
- you'll be able to re-map your storage drives into the /etc/fstab, but you'll need to add the shares in Amahi exactly as they were in Amahi6.
- none of your apps will work 100% yet as many are still in alpha/beta phase due to the Fedora 19 upgrade.
- no need to retain your swap or OS partition from the old Amahi.
Do keep in mind this is a theoretic swap-over method and should, but may not work 100%

Re: moving from AMAHI6 to AMAHI7
thanks for the quick reply.
what do you mean by this?
or do you mean I should move the OS disk from the HDA1 first and then move the second?
I forgot to mention that I have one share, the pictures share, setup with an extra copy option. That is why I want to move both shares/disks at the same time from one to the other.

Re: moving from AMAHI6 to AMAHI7
Nothing from your Amahi6 OS partition will carry over... Amahi7 is FRESH INSTALL ONLY. As such, just build the new HDA from scratch. Once done, THEN connect the old storage drives. They will need to be mapped identically to the way they were in the old server. ... from the dashboard shares settings to the /etc/fstab entries... identical.

Be also aware that while Greyhole is installed in version 7 you will have to configure it manually i.e setup the database and configure the database schema etc.
So if you aren't comfortable doing a manual install for Greyhole without any instructions I would hold on for a while until the Wiki is updated. Simply updating the new system's fstab with your dive UUID's wont get things working straight away.

Re: moving from AMAHI6 to AMAHI7
thanks for the heads up! I didnt read up on that. that and the fact that a couple of my favo apps are still in beta/alpha will probably keep me from moving to AMAHI7 at the moment.Be also aware that while Greyhole is installed in version 7 you will have to configure it manually i.e setup the database and configure the database schema etc.

Its our main Homeserver and we use it intensively:
- filesharing for videos, photos and music
- automated downloads
so I can not take it offline for long. I might just put both HDA's online for now and test/fix myAMAHI7 untill its OK to replace the AMAHI6 system...
https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/How_to ... me_network
this guide it not very clear to me. I think I might go this way:
router/switch: turn of DHCP
HDA1: AMAHI6 turn OFF: DHCP and DNS
HDA2: AMAHI7 DHCP and DNS are ON
that way just one HDA is taking care of DNS and DHCP.
and if I gove both HDA's their own IP address, then everything should be fine? shouldnt it?
Re: moving from AMAHI6 to AMAHI7
You should be able to run two at once, but that guidance was done for F12 or F14 I believe, so may not work. I have run two at the same time, however apps did not work on the secondary one due to DNS issues I think.
We still have some polishing to do on Amahi 7, but once done it should be a solid product. Setting up Greyhole is the one thing we need to get documented in the wiki. I just have not had the time.

Re: moving from AMAHI6 to AMAHI7
I know what I did wrong when installing the second HDA.
I didnt "start building a new HDA" on AMAHI.ORG and used the same installcode on the second as on the first...thus resulting in IP PROBLEMS
I know have a new code, installed it, and both are accesible.
I also did this:
turned off DHCP on the OLD (firts HDA) and pointed its DNS to the new (second) HDA.
both HDAs are now accesible....thanks for the support, the IRC channel also rocks (thanks CPG)
