Amahi + XBMC

Hey guys,

Total novice here on both Linux + Amahi, will be getting my server over the next week to set it all up.

One question I have currently, is that I want my home server to double up as a PVR. On a quick search of the forums I found: http://forums.amahi.org/viewtopic.php?f ... xbmc#p9448 but it seems that over the last 2 years, Amahi has come a long way, and now is on Fedora 14.

I came across these two articles here too:

but currently they totally stump me (granted, will probably be easier once I am faced with the actual installation).


Now, my question is the following:

Has anyone here currently got their home server running Fedora 14 + Amahi + XBMC (maybe even w/ a TV tuner (as that is what I want to implement at a later date)?

If so, how easy was it to install? Is it as easy as following the guides above?


My current aim for my Amahi installation is:
1. Network File Server (first and foremost)
2. PVR replacement with dual tuner TV card and ability to tap into files located on Amahi server

Current Hardware:
HP Proliant N40L w/ 8gb RAM
Nvidia Geforce 210

Future Hardware:
A dual tuner TV card of some sort.

I am not using mine as a PVR but I have been using Amahi for a couple years now. I also have 3 XBMC client machines (1-HTPC and 2-ATV1 on Crystalbuntu) in the house that stream off the server. I am also using MySQL to manage my movie/tv/music databases so all content, watched status, etc., is synced.

Parts of the initial setup was a pain as I had almost no linux experience at all. Most of my issues were easily solved with patience, searching this forum, patience, searching the xbmc forum, patience and searching google. What I couldn't solve that way, the great people in the Amahi/Fedora/XBMC forums got me squared away. Unless you really know your stuff, you aren't going to have everything setup in a day, but I assure you, it's truly worth the work. The result is fantastic and I have recommended it to all of my Techie buddies. Most of which have converted and love the combo as well.
