Processor Upgrade?

Postby eboxler » Tue Jan 10, 2012 9:57 am

I Just re-built my Desktop with a new i7 and pulled out the AMD Phenom Quad (9550) and am planing to drop that into the AM2 Board that my HDA is currently using to replace the AMD 4600+ X2. Is there anything I should know before I swap the processor's?

The MOBO will support the processor and the system is using the OEM AMD Phenom heat sink so it should be an easy swap but will Fedora give me any issues?

I am going to setup a mine-craft server and with the Subsonic load that I am already dealing with I want the extra power :-)

Fedora is pretty forgiving with upgrades.

I swapped a mobo and a cpu and ram in my latest rebuild and everything really just boots no problemo.

Best thing to be sure of is that all your hard drives use the same sequence/order of SATA plugs.

Remember a 'greyhole -f' and a 'yum update -y' after the upgrades.

Another suggestion would be an aftermarket CPU cooler that uses a bigger fan to encourage silence.
