One-click install clarification

Postby geregam » Mon Dec 05, 2011 10:44 am

I have been searching for some home server solutions and came across Amahi as a great possibility. I've used Fedora in the past and I'm pretty comfortable with the server administration, but the ease of use with Amahi is tremendous.

My problem is this: I've setup an Amahi instance on a small test box that will not be the main Amahi box because of several problems (at least 1 bad ram slot and a bad on-board IDE Controller). I have another box that I want to move to, but I cannot do that until my new home laptop arrives (since the box I want to put Amahi on is currently my home PC.

In my test environment, i want to see how some of the apps (particularly DLNA and Backup) interacts with my other devices (2 droid phones, IPad2, PS3, Netbook, Win7 laptops). I don't have a problem with paying for the packages, but I do have a problem paying for the packages twice: once for a test environment and once for what will become my live environment.

The FAQs, to me, are somewhat vague.. On one hand it says that, once i buy the app, i can uninstall/re-install any number of times. However, the FAQ above that states Amahi has not decided what to do about "If i pay the one-click fee, do i have to pay for it again." I would ASSUME that this means, if I buy version 1, and version 2 comes out and upgrade, do I have to pay for version 2, but again, it's just not clear to me.

From what I've seen as far as setup, Amahi is an excellent product and should fit my needs nicely, and I will gladly support those who make the extended applications quick and easy to install. However, I do not want to pay twice for the same thing because I chose to perform due diligence and test the package and it's associated apps prior to a live install.

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello,

To clarify, you only have to pay once. The only way you would potentially have to pay twice is if there are two versions of the same app in the store. This has only occurred once that I am aware. We typically update the original app with the new versions.

Hope that clarifies your question.

BigFoot65,

Thanks for the quick reply. I was very impressed with the ease of setup, I'm assuming that the apps (or applets, or whatever Apple lets you call them) will provide a similar experience.

No problem. Most applications are easy to install. Those which require login credentials will display them after install as first user name and password.

There are some apps that have special instructions which may need to be completed for the app to work properly. There are not many of them, but do pay attention to the dashboard after install for these.

Hope you enjoy it and welcome aboard!
