Preventing Access
Preventing Access
I have just installed Amahi and am trying to figure to how to prevent access to some content. I have 2 young children and want to prevent them from watching inappropriate movies that I may have on my system, but I want to be able to use my Samsung Blu-ray player to stream the movies from the server. I understand that I can prevent users from accessing different folders, but how do I set up the system to possibly password protect files and still allow me to view them via the Blu-ray player?

Re: Preventing Access
I am interested in this as well. Does anyone know is this possible? If so please let us know how to do this.
Re: Preventing Access
Set up one or more private shares to put the content you don't want your children to access.
Put the kid's files in a public share.
Assuming that you give your children a different username/password then they can't access your forbidden files.

Re: Preventing Access
How do I setup a private share. I have the movie share setup as follows:
Access - visible
Permission unchecked
Users - only admin and myself have access and writable checked, all others are unchecked
I can still see the files from any computer on my network using windows media player and file explorer without having to login.
I still want to be able to access my movies via my samsung BD player.

Re: Preventing Access
So is it working ok? I'm not sure I understand the problem.
If you don't want kids seeing your filenames, you can uncheck 'visible' I think.

No, it's not working. I can still see all of the files on any machine. Don't even have to log in to see them. Just use file explorer and go to network connections and you can open any file.
Re: Preventing Access
What happens if you set the share to not visible?
