Sounds like the apps did not install correctly. This is most likely due to a connectivity issue with the download source. Many of our apps come from sourceforge.net and we are noticing a rash of issues with some of their mirror sites.

Please check the log info in /var/log/amahi-app-installer.log and report back.

I uninstalled and reinstalled apps repeatedly...many, many times
portaNEO seems work fine.
But, drupal and SABnzbd still do not work.
Ok. i'll retry...

I think amahi's app installation feature must be improved.
If installation is failed or any problem occured, amahi stops installation and returns result message.
User can't recognize that installation succeeded, utill they check the log.
Also the probability of installation success is too random. Installation is not dice game...

First, I agree. We are having more and more people from all over the planet installing Amahi.

The reliability of the download sites is one problem. The other one is slight differences on the install platforms.

Here is what we're doing to improve that:

- protect ourselves from sourceforge failures, etc. by creating a secondary mirror. failure to download from the main source, we can load from a second source. this is work and some hosting costs, but not too bad.
- we're building a robot army of bots to do app testing 24x7

If you have other ideas, this is an area of interest for Amahi and any ideas, suggestions (and donations/help) will be appreciated.

First, i think that i must know how to app is installed/uninstalled internally.
BTW, i can't uninstall all apps any longer.
I clicked "uninstall" and message holds on 'Preparing to uninstall ...'
Apps don't be uninstalled.

What I see in the logs is a connectivity issue. As cpg stated, this could be do to the location of the source file. We have many apps downloaded from sourceforge.net and their mirrors are squirrely sometimes.

As far as understanding how apps install/uninstall. Basically the apps are downloaded and extracted into the html web app dir or the specific app, i.e. /var/hda/web-apps/portaneo/html. Then there is an install script that makes changes to files in the dir and does the database work if needed. On uninstall the process is basically reversed. Its a pretty simple process, but unfortunately if the source file is not downloaded or corrupted, the rest of the process fails. That is what I believe you are seeing.

I recommend you reboot your hda, then ensure the latest platform is installed. Try uninstall/reinstall again to see if that helps. If not, then we can try to diagnose further.

I reboot hda and tried to uninstall some apps, but i can't.
So i checked amahi-app-installer.log
It seems amahi does not logging anything.
And i checked yum.log and found following lines

Code: Select all

Dec 14 17:04:53 Updated: hda-greyhole-0.7.5-1.i386 Dec 14 17:05:29 Updated: hda-platform-5.6.9-1.noarch
I've succeeded install/uninstall the apps, before update.
I think this problem related to these updates.

update:

I re-updated 'hda-platform-5.6.9-1.noarch'

Code: Select all

yum update hda-platform-5.6.9-1.noarch
And, apps are successfully uinstalled and amahi starts logging to amahi-app-installer.log

It seems work fine.

Anyway, why such problem is occurred?

Glad all is well now. There was an issue in the code that had to be repaired. It was done last night hence the new platform release.

You have to understand this is a beta project, so things are going to break. We do out best to circumvent any issues, but there is always something that gets through.

As you can see, this was worked quickly and the solution pushed out all within a matter of hours.

OK. I understand amahi is in beta phase.
I'm also enjoying beta projects and like solving the problem! :D

Anyway, platform update feature must be improved, too.
If there is new version of hda platform, HDA has to notify this to user.
And also User is able to choose/setup update policy like windows. IMO

Drupal and SABnzbd still do not work, although i retry to uninstall/install repeatedly.

I've got many years OSGi experience and joined the OSGi home server project in our company.
I think that Amahi platform is similar to home server i developed
and OSGi may give the many ideas and inspirations to the Amahi team.

Cheers!
