MyiHome Server (Popcorn Hour)

Postby josifbg » Fri Nov 26, 2010 7:06 pm

HI There,

I`ve tried to install "MyiHome Server" as a web app but iam stuck to where i should edit the file which has the paths of my media library and schedule automatic start of the server.

Simple how to can be found here -> http://www.networkedmediatank.com/wiki/ ... g_in_Linux
Description, also DL link can be found here -> http://www.networkedmediatank.com/download/myihome.html

Here is the steps i follow:

1. Unpacked the downloaded file to my Download folder
2. In my HDA setup page i choose apps -> Webapps, then "new Web Apps"
3. Name: myihome
4. Copy "MyiHomeLinux-v5.2.0" content to "/var/hda/web-apps/myihome/"

Code: Select all

# cp -R MyiHomeLinux-v5.2.0/* /var/hda/web-apps/myihome/
7. Change the ownership and group to "apache"

Code: Select all

# cd /var/hda/web-apps/myihome/ # chown -R apache * # chgrp -R apache *
8. Start the server and stop it.

Code: Select all

# ./startserver.sh
ctrl+c (to stop it)

9. According to the installation instructions i should:

Code: Select all

# gedit ~/Library/myiHome/preference.xml

When i hit enter i`ve got huge list of one and the same error
GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.)
How to fix this?

The second question is how to tell MyiHome to automatically start?

Any suggestions?

Have you checked the forums or web site for the software? There may be some answers there to get you back on track.

I didn`t check closely but i decided to open a thread here to discuss it with all Amahi Users and even suggest it to the Dev Team of Amahi to include it to the next release `cause i think this is one of the best media streaming servers out there especially for Popcorn Hour.

Understand. Have you already suggested it at amahi.org? If not, please do so. We will add it the list.

I would not anticipate it in the next release. We have much to get done for Fedora 14. There will not be any new features added to Fedora 12, only maintenance releases. This would be something added for Fedora 14 down the road.

If it can be packaged as an app, it will be looked at as well. We are a very small team of volunteers and rely on community support for these types of requests. If you can get it working and document the detailed steps in the wiki, that would be great. From those instructions, you or someone else can package it as an Amahi app.

Not sure if you are aware, but we have some media server apps available in Amahi. Have you tried any of them? You may find some of the same features and more already done for you.

Thanks for you reply.

I`ve suggested it in amahi.org and tried to install it by myself as you can see in first post.

Anyway i`ll try harder to see what will happand

I`ve reviewed all of the media servers in amahi but the question is that the MyiHome Server is unique only for Popcorn Hour media players.

Good Luck with the new release.

J.

Understand. If you can make it work, that would be great. A I mentioned, with our current work load it will be added to the queue for now. Wished I had more time to work all these apps, but unfortunately I do not.

The more you can sort out, the quicker we can get it in Amahi and out to the community. Even if its just a wiki page on how to install it, that is always a good start. We can adapt from there.
