Have a question that I'm not sure where to look to start troubleshooting. Installed Amahi on a new server box a couple of months ago. Everything installed fine and the system has been working without issue except for one problem I'm noticing.
First noticed this after about 3 weeks of uptime when I couldn't get to the server or anything else that needed DNS resolution to work. Checked the server box and didn't see any obvious errors and all the services appeared to be working correctly (had to actually get on the local box as "hda" in a browser didn't work nor did trying to ssh to hda or the IP address). Decided to just reboot and see what happened (as I said, not sure where to begin to look at this point). Once back up everything was fine for about 2 weeks. Then...
Second time just happened yesterday (day before? it's very late Sunday). Same symptoms. But this time I noticed two things (that may have been there the first time but I can't remember). I had received an e-mail about the Greyhole update (I don't use that service but the e-mail reminded me that I thought there was an update before the first time the problem happened) and when rebooting the box I noticed as all the services were being stopped that it paused with "amahi-update" and then indicated it "failed" while all the other services stopped fine. Upon reboot everything was fine again.
So.. any chance I've got something going wrong with the update service that is causing this problem? How do I check? Any other possible issues I should be looking at instead?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
Jer
Server seems to loose DNS service after updates
Re: Server seems to loose DNS service after updates
You could look in /var/log/hda-updates.log to see if there were any errors with your update(s).
Try posting any errors you find, and someone will try and help.

Re: Server seems to loose DNS service after updates
Took a look at the log file suggested and didn't see any error messages within it. However, it does appear that Amahi is doing a check every hour for any updates. No problem with that if that's normal, but the log file only seems to hold about a days worth of info.
Is that normal? If it is, and since this problem seems to occur with a update and may be a day before I notice it (i.e. push happens at night, I don't use the hda till the next evening), is there any means to increase the interval that this log file retains it's messages?
Thanks,
Jer
