Movie Player front end?

Postby lalpert » Mon Jan 11, 2010 10:39 am

For music I use iTunes on my Win7 and XP boxes and RythymBox on my Ubuntu box. Import from //hda/music and all my music is in one place. Works good.

For pictures I use Picasa 3 on Win7 and XP. Set up //hda/pictures as the export folder and it imports all the pictures into Picasa. All my pictures in one place. Works good.

I want a front end movie player for Ubuntu. Totem just plays the movies but forces me to go search through folders to find what I want. I want an orgainzed front end for my movies like Rythymbox works for my songs.
I couldn't find an Ubuntu solution. I want the same thing for Windows but haven't looked for that yet, I assume WMP will do it.

Will VLC show a library format? If so, I need to go digging through it!

I use XBMC on my ubuntu box as a front end. Try it out! http://xbmc.org

I couldn't get VLC to show a library. It seems like it can but I can't figure it out so I installed XBMC. Wow.

Box 1:
nVidia 5600GT vid card dual boot Win7 and Ubuntu 9.10

Works great under Win7.

Works like crap on Ubuntu. VERY slow. The mouse movement is very choppy. Almost useless.

Box 2:
An older machine with a 256mb EVGA AGP vid card. That works ok. Mouse is a hair slower than it should be but still serviceable.

XBMC has numerous video databases it can call upon to create a video library. I couldn't get that to work but I didn't try very hard.
