OK after having everything started from zero again I now installed OpenVPN from the Available Applications list and it's showing green light, now I'm gonna have to wait to test it outside my network, I only have my phone on which I can turn WiFi off and use 3g to check it, but I don't think I can configure VPN on it just using the VPN in Setting
Regarding opening an app to use from outise the network by just typing username.yourhda.com still no luck, unless this cannot be tested using an iPhone
cannot access username.yourhda.com from outside my network
Re: cannot access username.yourhda.com from outside my netwo
Good to hear about OpenVPN. I am sure it will work fine, does for me.
As for the username.yourhda.com, did you run the network troubleshooter? It might provide a clue as to why may be wrong.

Re: cannot access username.yourhda.com from outside my netwo
I thought I would tag on to this post as I am having a similar issue. Running Amahi on ubuntu 12.04
I have my HDA setup and running great within my home network. The only issue I'm having is home.com refuses to resolve. I am using the server for DHCP/DNS. But I'm ok with that for now.
My problem is that username.yourhda.com refuses to work outside my network. I have setup ServerAlias username.yourhda.com for web-apps proxy. I have forwarded port 80 and 443 to the server address. I can also get through the network troubleshooter with no problems. username.yourhda.com resolves fine within my home network. Any ideas?

Re: cannot access username.yourhda.com from outside my netwo
Seems like all the pieces are in place. Is there a firewall or proxy possibly in the way?
Might consider emailing support and see if there is some disconnect with your HDA and the mother ship.
The other option is to use VPN. That will ensure you can access pretty much any app from outside the network. You might also be able to achieve the same result using OpenVPN ALS. It has web forwards that work with some apps.

I know that does not fix the username.yourhda.com issue, but does provide some alternatives.

Re: cannot access username.yourhda.com from outside my netwo
Router has no firewall and I don't think ubuntu has anything by default. Definitely no proxy that I know of. Network troubleshooter would have found any proxy I think.
I'd like to avoid having to use VPN on all the machines I want to access it with. I think I'll stop by the IRC tonight and try to email support if nothing else. If I can remember I'll post back here with results. Thanks!

Re: cannot access username.yourhda.com from outside my netwo
No problem. The OpenVPN ALS is a clientless VPN. You install it on the HDA and access it via web browser, so nothing to install on the client. It does require Java, but most clients have that by default anyway.

I did not know this lol. Thanks for the information I'll explore that option as well.No problem. The OpenVPN ALS is a clientless VPN. You install it on the HDA and access it via web browser, so nothing to install on the client. It does require Java, but most clients have that by default anyway.
Re: cannot access username.yourhda.com from outside my netwo
Hi, sorry for taking so long to reply, I've been a little busy.
I did the network troubleshooter and it says that cannot identify the problem with the network (I passed all the tests). Also after editing the app .conf file and adding ServerAlias username.yourhda.com (using my actual username) and reloading apache2 I get this output:
[warn] NameVirtualHost *:80 has no VirtualHosts
[warn] NameVirtualHost *:80 has no VirtualHosts
I also have a dyndns.com domain, not sure if that can help in any way. But I'm able to SSH into the server using that domain from outside the network with no problem

Re: cannot access username.yourhda.com from outside my netwo
That response from apache is normal, so nothing out of place there. You mentioned you have a secondary dynamic DNS running on the HDA? If that is the case, it might be interfering the with the Amahi one.
Just a thought.

Yes I have a dyndns domain but it was disabled on the router until today. Unless I have to disconnect the account from dyndns completely
