Added this last point to the above howto:
7. To get it to shutdown when pressing the power button

Code: Select all

yum remove gnome-power-manager

This was the last glitch that was itching me with Fedora 16. The gnome-power-manager is not needed on a headless system and by removing it the system now shuts down properly with the hardware power button.

Seems the f16 repo is unavailable, anyone know how I can upgrade from f14 to f16 or f17?

It may have been taken down as the latest Amahi version for Fedora is 14. We are beginning to work on 17, but the repo is not formed yet.

The Fedora 16 development was never finished, so the repo was incomplete. As a result, it may have been taken off line permanently.

The latest stable version for Amahi is Ubuntu 12.04. Recommend you stick with Fedora 14 or move to Ubuntu 12.04. If you want to wait for Fedora 17, it may be a few months.

By the way, there is no upgrade path from Fedora to Ubuntu. It will require a new install as most likely will be the case for Fedora 17. There will be so many changes from 14 to 17, that we anticipate an upgrade may break the system.

what needs to be done to get amahi to work in an OS?

is there a list of packages to modify? or install? I'm wondering if it can be done with little programming knowledge.

There is more than just adding packages to a distro. There is platform work that needs to be taylored to the OS. That is why we limit support to 1 or 2 distros. We don't have the resources to support more.

Going from Fedora 14 to 17 is not even an easy upgrade. We are currently working platform changes to support the latest Fedora release.

I ask because I am tempted to work on CentOS-Amahi unofficially

Understand. You can try picking up where the previous person left off.

http://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Centos_6

Currently only the platform would work if you are successful since there is no repo nor apps set up for CentOS. I would be willing to help as well time permitting.

If bandwidth is an issue, i could use
http://www.howtoforge.com/creating_a_lo ... ory_centos
to make a vm with a repo of the centos amahi repo files just for testing locally.

otherwise, yea I'd like to test Centos6 as openVZ container and KVM/QEMU VM running Centos6 with Amahi.

Yea that might work best. We typically do not create any Amahi repos for an OS until we support it. All those OS notes in the wiki are based on users pulling in the Amahi GIT repo files and doing it all locally on their own.

If we get to a point where Amahi will support CentOS, then we can stand up a repo.
