MP3 Streamer with Good GUI

Postby bman289 » Sat May 09, 2009 11:36 am

Hi Guys,

Has anyone found a great app with nice GUI for streaming MP3s? Jinzora won't configure for me (can login but blank white screen), and Ampache works but the GUI is really clunky. I've also tried AmahiTunes thru iTunes but I'm not a fan of iTunes in general.

I like the simple look of Subsonic, with the A-Z list and subsequent album graphics - also looks like the player is right in the browser (rather than opening up another player like Windows Media Player when you click on a song). Also looks like SqueezeCenter (formerly SlimServer) might be nice. Anyone tried any of these or other options with Amahi?

Thanks!

Have you tried ampache in amahi, it is a great app. For more detailed info you can do to http://www.ampache.org

I've tried Ampache but just find the GUI not the best or easiest to find your content. Has anyone tried SubSonic or any others?

Thanks!

nice ... http://subsonic.sourceforge.net/

we'll see if someone can contribute this app for amahi.

if you can make it work as a web app, it should be easy to package!

are you interested in packging apps?

i also found this one, which looks pretty darn good too (for a different purpose):

Hi cpg - I thought the web interface was probably the best I've seen for mp3 streaming; looks like it converts on the fly to lower bitrates if bandwidth is limited.

I'm happy to throw in and help with something but until my Linux knowledge gets up to speed I might be asking more questions than really contributing... :)

looks like one of our contributors is already packaging the app ... thanks for the pointer and stay tuned!

(you can become a tester and see the app earlier when it goes into beta, before release)

Just to put my 2 cents in....i tried SubSonic on FreeNAS before i decided to give amahi a try.

Worked great. Streams well. They have a Android app, as well as (i think) an iphone app.
The interface is very easy to work with. Setup was a breeze.
I too would like to see this available with Amahi

Subsonic is awesome. Installed nice and easy and works a dream streaming to my android phone across the interweb and everything. Well worth a look. The app allows you to control bitrate and cache on the phone for offline listening.

Very nice
