I upgrade to the current version of Amahi about a month ago. Everything was working fine. I turned off my server today to move it to a different location and not get the error "cannot open access to console. Root account is locked". I have not access to the server for my files or to use as DHCP/DNS server. How can I get my server back on-line?
Thanks.
Cannot open access to console. The root account is locked.
Re: Cannot open access to console. The root account is locked.
Log in using the first admin user account, not root.
BTW what version of Amahi?

Re: Cannot open access to console. The root account is locked.
Using Amahi 11.
I can't get to a login. Keeps indicating it wants to boot to Emergency mode and to hit enter. Hitting enter just goes into a loop that says cannot open access to console and the root account is locked and to press enter to enter Emergency mode.
Concerned that I will loose all my data (music, videos, etc.)

The emergency mode indicates a drive is missing.
Did you move or remove any drives?

Re: Cannot open access to console. The root account is locked.
No I didn't. Simply turned off the server to move it to a different location and ever since have had this problem.
If I install Amahi from scratch, how would I rebuild by data and greyhole drives without losing my data, since i can't get a print out of the information now using your migration guide?
Would I be able to pull my data drives, put them in a dock and copy my video, music and picture files off of them?

Re: Cannot open access to console. The root account is locked.
Yes you can reinstall using that guide.
As long as the drives are separate from the OS drive, you should be fine.
I would recommend before taking such drastic measures that you try to figure out the underlying issue.
There is plenty of guidance on the internet for finding problems in emergency mode and fixing it. I believe there’s a way to reset root password as well.

Re: Cannot open access to console. The root account is locked.
Did reset the root password. Still not able to boot. Since I won't have my drive layouts, how would i rebuild without losing data after a fresh install?
Thanks for all the help so far.

Re: Cannot open access to console. The root account is locked.
Ok. So now that you have the root password reset, recommend you log in using emergency mode.
Then edit /etc/fstab and comment out your extra drives. Reboot and see if that fixes the issue.

Re: Cannot open access to console. The root account is locked.
OK. I commented out the extra drives and we're making progress! Now my server boots. I can access my server on my network. The control panel show it is online. My folders are there but I'm not seeing any data (which would make sense).
I would assume that one of the drives is bad. What are my next steps to figure that out and get my data back?
Thanks so much for your help so far.

Re: Cannot open access to console. The root account is locked.
Check drive connections.
Then add them back one at a time until you find the bad one.
If you have an idea which one is bad, you could add all but that one.
