Sharing a second drive

Postby alandavid » Sun Jan 06, 2019 9:36 am

Hi

I am able to share part of the partion on a drive and access from windows ,but want to add /home

But the partition part shared is only 49 GB the drive is a 500gb but I cannot access it as a share

I have also added a second (also 500gb) drive but cannot see that either but want to use as backup/replication

MB0500EAMZD /dev/sda 33
WDC WD5000AAKX-08U6AA0 /dev/sdb 36

/dev/sda1 976 MB 829 MB 79.7 MB(9%) /boot
/dev/sda3 49 GB 25.9 GB 20.5 GB(45%) /
/dev/sda5 403 GB 383 GB 72.1 MB(1%) /home

I have very basic UNIX skills from 20 years ago but cannot see the syntax to utilise SDA5 ,I tried to mount on the command line but even though I was logged in as admin is said you need to run as root when I did SU none of the passwords that I used in setup worked as root

Any pointers really appreciated

Alan

Recommend you check out the adding a second hard drive guidance.

Hi

I have progressed with the guide but can't seem to work out the final stage and share the partition

This is what I get with fdisk -l

sdb is the second drive I feel I am near but no cigar yet!

Disk /dev/sda: 465.8 GiB, 500107862016 bytes, 976773168 sectors
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disklabel type: dos
Disk identifier: 0x7cf7a418

Device Boot Start End Sectors Size Id Type
/dev/sda1 * 2048 2099199 2097152 1G 83 Linux
/dev/sda2 2099200 10379263 8280064 4G 82 Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/sda3 10379264 115236863 104857600 50G 83 Linux
/dev/sda4 115236864 976773119 861536256 410.8G 5 Extended
/dev/sda5 115238912 976773119 861534208 410.8G 83 Linux

Disk /dev/sdb: 465.8 GiB, 500107862016 bytes, 976773168 sectors
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes

Create a share with the dashboard and make the path match the mount point for the drive.

When you added the line to /etc/fstab, it would be the path such as /var/hda/drives/sdb1.

It doesn’t appear that you completed the instructions for adding a second hard drive.

Once that is complete, you will see sdb1 as a partition.

Suggest you do some reading on the internet to learn Linux. That will help you understand what you are doing.

It apppears you didn’t follow initial install guidance or you would not have a large /home partition. That’s your first issue. Important you read guidance and follow documentation for success.

You might consider purchasing commercial support. We can only provide limited support in the forums.
