I haven't yet found an easy to use, line by line guide to install and configure apcupsd on fedora.
The UPS setup guidance in the wiki might help. There should be something out on the internet to help as well.

Keep in mind, these sorts of modifications to the HDA are considered for advanced users. Running a Linux server is not something that is straight forward. The learning curve is steep for some. I always recommend users get more familiar with Linux.

Ok, I think I'll punt for now. Past power failures haven't caused this problem, so hopefully future ones won't be a problem either. I have it on a surge protector, so that should help somewhat I hope.

Thanks

Understand.

BTW, having the server hooked into an UPS is beneficial regardless if it will be integrated to shut down the machine. If you ever have a brief power loss (5 minutes or less), the server will remain running.

Without it, it will shutdown hard. This can cause file corruption as well as hardware damage. I would recommend at least keeping it plugged into an UPS. It's cheaper than having to replace the hardware or time needed to rebuild a machine.

This is a good point. I've lived over 5 years in one place, and have only had one power outage more than 5 minutes. So even having a UPS without the automatic shutdown capability would be better than nothing?

Yes. It will save you one day and you will be glad you had it.

We have brown outs occasionally and the power goes off for 2-3 seconds, but that is long enough to shut off the computer in a bad way. So I have them on all my machines and no issues.

Here's an interesting update on this. I got my new ~$40 UPS today. I had always had my server plugged into a surge protector, which in turn was plugged into an outlet in the closet where it is all located. I replaced the old surge protector with my new UPS and the UPS gives a warning that there is faulty building wiring. Hmmm. I then tried in two other outlets and that warning was not triggered on the UPS. I wonder if that faulty outlet caused an issue when the power failed. Hopefully my surge protector minimized any potential damage.

I have the same issue in my house. Most of the plugs are 3-prong grounded, but not wired that way.

Never had any problems, so hopefully you won't either.

Some bad news related to this thread. After my restart of my server (which i did properly) in order to do the UPS, Deluge is no longer working. I get the same 503 error as before. Subsonic seems to be working normally. I restarted Deluge with no luck. This is what the service deluge status reads:

Do you see any problems that I can fix so that I don't have to keep reinstalling it?

Code: Select all

Also, if i go into deluge-console, i get:

Code: Select all

Failed to connect to 127.0.0.1:58846 with reason: Password does not match
I have no idea what password doesn't match what.
Thanks again for your help

Please submit a bug report.

Best to try and diagnose the issue there.
