SOLVED: SSH hda vs OS X Yosemite

Postby pitbull » Thu Aug 27, 2015 1:52 pm

Just upgraded to Amahi 7.1.

I can't access the web UI from my MacBook Yosemite using //hda, I have to use the IP. Same goes SSH, I have a connection refused using hda but successful using the ip. I run Windows 7 on Parallels and have the same with Putty. Works only with IP. On my Windows 10 desktop machine, it works as advertised. Tried the wife's MacBook which has a LAN port to rule out wi-fi vs cat5 and tried the wired connection, same situation. hda --> connection refused, IP works.

DHCP is disabled on my router and the DNS server is running on my hda machine. It drives me nuts!

Sounds like a firewall issue. Check the clients and did you check out the network troubleshooting guidance?

Thanks for the reply. I did check the network trouble shooting and I ran the interactive troubleshooter from my Windows 10 desktop box. It's a DNS issue. tried to on the iMRC channel but didn't get a reply there and was getting late so I postponed the thing.

I ran Amahi 6 for years, and was working as advertised ie.: could access http://hda no problem. The problem started after my 7.1 install.

Are you using the HDA for DHCP/DNS server functions? Have you checked the clients to see what they reflect for DHCP and DNS server?

Is the IP address of your HDA < 100?

What did the network troubleshooter indicate as a problem if anything?

Your HDA DNS server is NOT working for local hostnames.

nslookup hda gave me :

nslookup hda
Server: 192.168.0.10
Address: 192.168.0.10#53

Name: hda.home.com
Address: 192.168.0.163

this doesn't look right. shouldn't that be .10?

That's your issue if you set it to .10. It should be whatever IP Address you indicated in the HDA profile on amahi.org for the installation code used.

If it is incorrect, recommend you power down all your clients and only leave the HDA connected to your network.

Next you would need to restart the network and possibly the HDA. Then check the HDA IP address again.

Have you confirmed the DHCP Server is off on the router?

Confirmed it is off on the router.

Did the above procedure, shut down all clients, restart my network devices, then restarted hda.

ssh back into the box and performed nslookup hda again and got the same result. wrong ip.

is there a way to ssh the ip into the server?
