Gnome gui doesn't start (Amahi Express CD) xinit xauth

Postby cruto » Wed Oct 15, 2014 5:21 am

Hi! I'm a fairly n00b linux user, dependent on guides and googling. I installed Amahi with the Express CD yesterday.
Today i wanted to install Gnome with this guide https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/GUI_In ... Express_CD

When i try "startx" i get:

Code: Select all

xauth file /root/.serverauth.2231 does not exist xinit: unable to run server "/user/bin/X": No such file or directory ... xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
Reboot gets me nowhere either and i have to use ctrl-alt-f2
The weird thing is that I can use gnome through the VNC from another computer.
I thought I could get a gui on the "server computer", did I misunderstand?
Help anyone!:D

Yes it's meant for remote access. Probably need to update wiki guidance to be clearer.

No problem. If you want an actual desktop you can log into on the HDA itself, you might consider reinstalling using the USB method.

Fedora 19 USB install

This method installs a desktop by default on the HDA, so you can use it as a secondary desktop. Most want a headless server and remote into the HDA for a desktop. BTW, we have an app that does it all for you called VNC.
