SOLVED: Host Name. Should it be localhost.localdomain?

Postby jonathankonrad » Thu Dec 26, 2013 1:50 pm

Quick question. I was looking at Linfo and it reports the host name on my HDA to be localhost.localdomain

This has come up a few times, like when I installed Plex and it tries to go to http://plexms.heritage.com/, which immediately redirects me to: http://localhost:32400/web/index.html, which does not work. I have to change it to: http://192.168.28.10:32400/web/index.html, or http://hda.heritage.com:32400/web/index.html

This is a fairly new Amahi 7 install on Fedora 19. I used the express CD. Is there a way to set the host name or will that cause a lot of trouble now that I'm running a few servers? I would like it to report hda.heritage.com which would be my internal network naming scheme.

Thanks for any help clearing this up.

Edit /etc/hostname and insert the FQDN you would like to use. Need to restart networking or possibly the HDA.

Thanks. I think that worked. I'll see what happens as I install other apps on this new HDA.

Awesome. Was this Express CD or DVD install for Amahi 7? I am trying to see if this needs to be filed as a bug.

It was the express CD, or I think that is what I have. The initial install instructions said DVD, then the link in the wiki said "Amahi 7.1 Express CD 64bit Bittorrent Download", hover the name of the iso file said "Amahi-7.1-x86_64-DVD.iso" but it burned to a blank CD and I ran it from CD media.

Ok, that's what I thought. As long as it's labeled Express in the file name, it is the Express CD/DVD. I think at one time it was too big for a CD, but that may have changed.

I have the exact problem. What is the actual syntax I should use in the Hostname file?

Thanks,

The FQDN is an acronym for fully qualified domain name. The format is hda.amahi.net.
