SOLVED: HDAconnect installation on Windows 8 64 bit : freeze

On windows 8 64 bit, the installation process of HDAconnect3 freezes right after oemwin2k.inf
I'm running the install as administrator.
I tried disabling UAC -- just in case. Nope, still freezes at oemwin2k.inf --> 100%.
What could it be ?

Ok, the problem was a hidden dialog (waiting for user intervention) not appearing seemingly because of some other program interference -- when I closed Google Chrome, the dialog became visible and install continued.
