I made some poor choices during installation (primarily the static IP that I used) and want to re-install Amahi. However, I'd like to preserve what I can so that I don't spend as much time on setup as I did the first time around. What I have and would like to keep:
Two physical HDD's with Greyhole drive pooling.
A month's worth of CrashPlan backups for 3 machines.
The rest can get whacked. I read that it's best to install with one physical HDD, then Greyhole, and then the additional drives. I assume that I can copy the current configuration info and save time there (retyping it). Is there something else that would make the process easier/more reliable?
I have enough storage space on the network to copy the existing backups to a temp location, then back to the HDA. Are there any issues with doing this?
Anything else that you can suggest to make the process go easier/faster/safer?
Thanks!
Re-installing, what can I save?
Re: Re-installing, what can I save?
There is very little you can save as far as settings. If you want to save the databases for apps, that is doable. If you mean all your other settings, they are not easily migrated to a new install.
In the past, I saved the static IPs, but that is about it. All the apps have to be reinstalled. All shares will need to be redone as well. It's really best to do as much manually as possible to ensure you don't miss something and cause more issues with the new install.

this
https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Post-I ... re_Changes
applies to what you're doing because your storage/shares drives can be left along while you re-install/configure your HDA.
Just ensure that everything points to the same names and drives retain the same paths and mounts, etc.
A good practice I use when altering installs while retaining data is to backup the /etc/fstab file always.
You could also go the brave route and manually alter your HDA IP.... I would suggest reading up on that quite a bit though.
