neither OPENVPN nor IPSEC-VPN-Server will start ...

Postby darkman1964 » Thu Aug 30, 2012 12:03 am

hi,

i installed ipsec-vpn and everything seems to be fine. but the server didn´t start. the entry at "setup-server" is "red". i tried to start the server by a klick on "start", but this failed. the same with openvpn.

i´m using hda on ubuntu 12.04.

how can i control this app on a terminal ?

The Dashboard server tab sometimes does not correctly report status. For CLI, you can try the following:

Code: Select all

sudo service openvpn status sudo service racoon status
Hope this helps.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled openvpn 3 times and each time when I check the status I'm getting:

Code: Select all

openvpn: unrecognized service
it's almost as if the service isn't being recognized correctly

I am running on 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04(.1 after all updates) I recently rebuilt the server from bare metal but on a previous 64-bit 12.04 the VPN was working fine.

And a reboot, uninstall/reinstall seems to have corrected whatever weirdness I was getting, service is now running.

1. ipsec-server is running but i can´t establish a connection from my android 4.0.4 -device -> i gave up and tried openvpn

2. deinstalled ipsec, installed openvpn (openvpn-server didn´t start), restarted my hda, openvpn can´t be started from hda or terminal:

3. looked for a running service by using htop:

so, befor i can test the connection i need to get it run. how about deinstall openvpn at hda and install openvpn-server for ubuntu with apt-get ?

are there any ideas for testing ?

3. restarted my hda

4. reinstalled openvpn, openvpn-server didn´t start

5. restarted my hda

6. openvpn still didn´t run / start

Check the /var/log/amahi-app-installer.log for errors. I have OpenVPN running on Ubuntu and appears to be working fine.

I just tested it on a VM and it's working. There may be some weirdness with your HDA that is causing issues. Checking logs may help shed some light on the problem.

Those all indicate the app has errors on install, hence why it's not working. I would recommend uninstall, reboot, and try again.

It appears there may be a connectivity issue with the app installing. That is normally what causes issues. Ensure there is no other activity occurring on your network while you attempt the install.
