Cannot access HDA, ruby not started, cannot load puginfacory

Hello all. I've recently installed the 5.4 express. All went well, the hda is shown as running on the control panel and I can log into it via ssh. However, I cannot reach the hda and get a "Ruby on Rails application could not be started" message.

The message also says "no such file to load -- pluginfactory (MissingSourceFile)".

Search the forum on that message and was advised to install pluginfactory (gem install pluginfactory).

That gives me "*** buffer overflow detected ***: /usr/bin/ruby terminated"

Check the hda-install.log in the root folder I believe for errors. Ensure you check the checksum for the Express CD image. If it is corrupt, it still might install but not work properly.

I have also seen where the Express CD does not have the necessary drivers for some hardware. It might be a good idea to try the Fedora 14 Full DVD install unless there is some reason you cannot.

The Express CD is meant to be headless of course, but it does have some issues occasionally that we cannot seem to pinpoint. They only happen occasionally it seems. You can do a headless install with the Full DVD as well, just a little more work.

I had a look at hda-install.log and there was obviously a lot of stuff there! Tbh, I didn't really know what I was looking at, or looking for, but nothing really leapt out as suggesting it was time to man the life boats.

I wanted a headless system so went for the Express CD, thinking it might be easier. I can't check the checksum as I no longer have the iso file, just the disk I burnt from it.

I'm going search forums and play a bit, see what I can do. If all else fails, I'll get the 14 DVD install and start again.

you can install using the regular method and then make it headless. i believe there is guidance on this somewhere on the wiki...though i cant seem to find it at the moment.

A few weeks ago I also tried installing the Plug Version of AMAHI on a rooted PogoPlug V2, I had the same problem and kept getting a buffer overflow with pluginfactory. I havn`t been able to get it fixed so am waiting to see if any genius can fix this ).

I`m also hoping that the Raspberry Pi project will reinvigorate the use of ARM machines for running amahi!

I am sorry to say, there is a possibility that this may not be resolved. We do not have access to this type of device nor the resources to help.

Your issue is likely device specific. We have been successful with most of the Plug devices, but some of the others has been hit and miss. Your best bet is to post in the Plug Computer topic area in hopes that someone who has been successful can help.

I will tell you that Amahi has not been working on the Plug devices for quite some time and not sure of there future with the project. The interest in these devices appears to have greatly diminished over time. Our current priority is Fedora 17 development. We may get back to them at some point, but hard to say.
