browsing the internet while amahi server is off [SOLVED]

Postby kikkegek » Wed Aug 03, 2011 3:52 am

I just finished my fresh and first install of Amahi at home and love it sofar.

I changed my DHCP server from my router to the Amahi server to be able to use the DNS server of Amahi so I can reach the webapps like AES.

Everything is working fine, but when my server is sleeping (managed by AES), because no clients are ON, I cant browse the internet with my android phone through wireless.

is there a way to fix this?

Since this is AES related, suggest you post in that topic area.

thanks, but AES is only putting the server hardware into sleep...therefor causing the DNS server not to be available anymore for clients that dont run the AES-client-app, which then can no longer surf the internet...like my laptop from work (no admin rights) and my android phone over wireless network.

Yes that was the intent. AES puts the HDA to sleep, so no connection. Unless you have a client app for your phone, I am unsure how you can connect until the HDA is woken up.

Best to contact the author of AES in the the aforementioned forum link.

kikkegek, as bigfoot65 said the best way is it use a phone app I have a android phone and there are lots of different WOL apps on google market that will wake up the HDA and then you could turn on your laptop.

Hope this helps

Hi kikkegek,

This is a conceptual limitation, as bigfoot65 correctly pointed out.

iI the scenario you describe - HDA goes to sleep but you still want to access the internet - I'd actually recommend to leave DNS and DHCP function on your router or whatever devices terminates the internet at your home. Alternatively, you can add your Android phone and your work PC to the list of monitored hosts, so that AES doesn't send your HDA to sleep as long as either of these clients is alive.
