Just sharing this workaround as it may save you hours and some frustration. Not content with having my Amahi (Fedora 10) working like a charm, i decided to take the plunge and download Fedora 12 and upgrade my Amahi server.

My system is a AMD Seprom 3000 with 3GB ram and 2 SATA 320GB RAID. MB is a geForce6100 with NVIDIA built-in videocard.

After creating the image DVD and attempting the install, the system kept failing to start in graphical mode ( X failed to start) and went to TEXT mode which was a complete mess for me.

I (incorrectly) attributed this to :
-bad ISO file--not so, after a couple of downloads of the iso file ( at least 3 hours in this process) and burning a few DVDs, the problem persisted.

So; i decided to search in Google and I found not too far:
KNOWN BUGS in Fedora 12:

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Common_F1 ... s_adapters

the first recommendation given to fix this issue:

"Some issues may be worked around by disabling kernel mode setting. To do this, add "nomodeset"

now, not being an expert in Linux, I wasn't sure were to add this, so I found that, when the Fedora installation boots and it gives you the options to install or upgrade Fedora 12, run locally, etc., etc., if you hit the tab key, it will bring/show at the bottom a command instruction to proceed with the install selection. At the end of the instruction, add "nomodeset" ( no quotes) and hit enter.

You should be able to start in graphical mode and follow along the Amahi installation instructions.

This resolved my issue after a few hours of frustration. Hopefully, this will save you some time if you are facing this same issue.

what do the contents of the file inittab display? To view using a command line type (without quotes) "nano /etc/inittab" hit page down a couple of times and then cut and paste your results here.
