Install freezes

Postby dshoener » Sat Feb 22, 2020 6:25 pm

Tried two different burns on 11, one on DVD, one on CD. On both I can enter language, keyboard, date, time, etc, BUT, as soon as I try to enter the install code, it freezes. Mouse still works, but nothing is clickable. Verified network settings are correct, but no go. Left it sit for an hour, no change. Any ideas?

If you are trying Express CD, then don’t use it.

Try Minimal Install CD. When inputting the install code, it may take a minute to verify code is correct.

Good network connectivity is important.

We've had spotty internet over the past few weeks, and I thought it was the IP, but troubleshooting today points to the modem. Have an older one that maxes out around 284mps, and our IP has been steadily increasing our speed, so we consistently get around 270. After troubleshooting today, realized reboots of the modem ALWAYS resolved the issue, thinking maybe it's not able to handle the signal we're getting? (grasping at straws). New modem arriving tomorrow. Tried twice with minimal install CD, got error both times "Failed to download the following packages: Curl error (28): Timeout was reached for <mirror address> [Operation timed our after 30002 milliseconds with 0 out of 0 bytes received]"

Well, new modem, excellent solid connection, but minimal still fails with above error, and express still freezes after entering install code. At a loss for what's causing these issues.

My only thought would be bad media or drive. I presume you are using CD. Might consider trying USB.

We don't see many failures with the Minimal Install CD. The error you are receiving is network connection related.

I would stay away from the Express DVD as it's not as dependable.
