Home partition

Postby modem7 » Wed Aug 14, 2019 12:36 pm

Whilst helping Calcify through viewtopic.php?f=9&t=7329&sid=9b64046aa0 ... 51900301db I noticed a few differences in our setup.

I've had my setup for quite a while as Bigfoot knows, and I've got the following partitions:
[~]$ df -hl
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
devtmpfs 16G 0 16G 0% /dev
tmpfs 24G 80K 24G 1% /dev/shm
tmpfs 16G 1.1M 16G 1% /run
tmpfs 16G 0 16G 0% /sys/fs/cgroup
/dev/sda3 50G 9.0G 42G 18% /
tmpfs 16G 13M 16G 1% /tmp
/dev/sda5 61G 13G 49G 21% /home
/dev/sda1 976M 113M 797M 13% /boot
/dev/sdb1 880G 55G 780G 7% /var/hda/files/drives/drive12
/dev/sdc1 2.7T 109G 2.5T 5% /var/hda/files/drives/bay8
/dev/sdf1 3.6T 111G 3.3T 4% /var/hda/files/drives/drive9
/dev/sdj1 3.6T 163G 3.3T 5% /var/hda/files/drives/drive10
/dev/sdg1 7.3T 3.3T 3.6T 48% /var/hda/files/drives/drive11
/dev/sdi1 9.1T 4.9T 3.8T 57% /var/hda/files/drives/drive1
/dev/sde1 2.7T 52G 2.5T 2% /var/hda/files/drives/drive6
none 4.0M 0 4.0M 0% /var/spool/greyhole/mem
/dev/sdd1 9.1T 4.9T 3.8T 57% /var/hda/files/drives/drive2
/dev/sdh1 9.1T 4.9T 3.8T 57% /var/hda/files/drives/drive3
tmpfs 3.2G 0 3.2G 0% /run/user/1000
Specifically, I've got a /home partition.

This was created during install using the standard partitioning scheme (as per https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Fedora ... VD_Install), so I may have made a mistake or the instructions were different when I did it (quite a while back now).

The question is as follows: Is there an easy way to move /home back into root, and delete the partition (as I'm thinking of extending the root partition)?

Would it just be a case of doing a cp -aR, and editing the fstab (as in https://www.tecmint.com/move-home-direc ... -in-linux/)?

Thanks!

Not sure why you ended up with a /home partition. The standard partition scheme should not have created one.

That should work, but no guarantee since I have never tried it.

Recommend you make a backup before making the change.
