MyCloud Reformat

Hello,

Fairly new to this, I have run various versions of Linux and server distros on old reformatted computers. But I have recently purchased a WD MyCloud EX2. I would prefer to reformat the device to use amahi mainly because of privacy/license agreements and data selling or sharing when using their software ect...I created a bootable USB with the Amahi ISO and everything checked okay during creation. But when I inserted the USB and rebooted the MyCloud, I got stuck, I cant figure out how to see/run the install. I went to the IP address that is registered to the device after I got an initial error, was brought back to the normal WD MyCloud page.

If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions I would appreciate the assist.
Thanks!

Install is from the command line via terminal.

Are you following the instructions at http://docs.amahi.org?

Yes I was trying to follow the standard install instructions for Amahi 11, but I couldn't get to the install screen as depicted. I will try to run the install through the command line. I suppose since I don't have a screen directly attached to MyCloud NAS and trying to use the default IP address web-interface didn't work; I will have to go through the windows command prompt and select the device directly from the network?

The install is not done via the web UI.

It has to be done command line.

The Web UI is used for administration of the Amahi once installed.

Oh, well thank you for the clarification. Not sure how I missed that.

So I have managed to get to SSH into the MyCloud and located the USB. entering ls displays <amahi image.iso> as an executable located on the USB but when I try to actually open or run the image to start the install the connection to the NAS is automatically closed out. And simply shows 'Connection to <address> is closed.

I was trying to open and run the amahi image.iso file by using 'exec amahi image.iso'

You are not following the instructions. There is a link for USB and how to add the ISO.

See USB Install guidance.

Please take your time and follow the instructions carefully. It's important you don't deviate.

Also I recommend you do the minimal CD install vs the Express CD. You will have better results.
