CLOSED: HDA does not see internet after upgrade from 9 to 10

Postby frodemann » Mon May 22, 2017 1:04 am

Hi,
I realize that upgrade is not supported, but thought I would report back before doing a fresh install just in case someone wanted to find out what went wrong with the update.

I can access the HDA dashboard, the list of available apps is empty - this is how i figured the HDA does not have contact with the internet.
Samba is working, I can access the shares that are not pooled. Greyhole shares are unaccessible, typing "greyhole" in a terminal gives me "command not found", i suppose that means it's not even installed.

DNS did not work so DHCP is now turned of in the HDA and I currently run DHCP from my router.

Any hope try to fix this? Or should I burn a Fedora 25 CD right the way? :)

The latter means some work, carry the box up from the basement, find a monitor, keyboard etc. so if it could be fixed I would be quite happy ...

Thanks for reporting the issue.

We have occasionally seen this where dnsmasq is taken over by libvirt because the system had desktop or something else installed. Se this troubleshooting issue in case it helps. This helped someone else yesterday (they installed desktop or it got installed somehow in the upgrade).

Another possibility is that the settings maybe did not take. I would try this: hda-ctl-hup, followed by a reboot.

The key is to find why the DNS/DHCP server is not getting to work. You can also paste the output of: ps guax | grep dns

Here's the output of: ps guax | grep dns
nobody 1337 0.0 0.0 49076 3748 ? Ss 16:18 0:00 /usr/sbin/dnsmasq -k
root 1836 0.0 0.0 119376 960 pts/0 S+ 16:23 0:00 grep --color=auto dns
[root@localhost ~]#
And here is: systemctl status dnsmasq.service
[root@localhost ~]# systemctl status dnsmasq.service
● dnsmasq.service - DNS caching server.
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/dnsmasq.service; enabled; vendor preset: disabled)
Active: active (running) since ma. 2017-05-22 16:18:17 CEST; 6min ago
Main PID: 1337 (dnsmasq)
Tasks: 1 (limit: 4915)
CGroup: /system.slice/dnsmasq.service
└─1337 /usr/sbin/dnsmasq -k

mai 22 16:18:17 localhost.localdomain systemd[1]: Started DNS caching server..
mai 22 16:18:17 localhost.localdomain dnsmasq[1337]: started, version 2.76 DNS disabled
mai 22 16:18:17 localhost.localdomain dnsmasq[1337]: compile time options: IPv6 GNU-getopt DBus no-i18n IDN DHCP DHCPv6 no-Lua TFTP no-conntrack ipset auth DNSSEC loop-detect inotify
[root@localhost ~]#
So it seems like dnsmasq is running? But I figure whitout the HDA beeing able to access the internet it's not in position to do much good?

Not sure if I'm thinking in the right direction, but Is it possible to get the HDA using DNS from the router? Or any other work around to get the HDA reaching internet? - and you suspect right, my Linux skills are not very good (but i'm learning a little for each version change ...)

From HDA terminal (Putty) I can ping the routers IP but nothing beyond that.

And the "hda-ctl-hup" with reboot did nothing.

Sorry, I was busy. I kind of wish we could have debugged this more. Come by the IRC channel and mention cpg if it's still debuggable.
