Hi. I'm a Windows guy new to Linux and Amahi trying to install Amahi on a laptop computer. I've burned the ISO image to a CD, but when I boot from it I get the error e-tripper [475]: cat: tmp/dd_disk: No such file or directory. After that I get

Code: Select all

[ OK ]Started Show Plymouth Boot Screen. [ OK ]Reached target path. [ OK ]Reached target Basic System. [23.073611] blk_update_request: I/O error. dev sr0, sector 850520 [23.240764] blk_update_request: I/O error. dev sr0, sector 850520 [23.270797] Buffer I/O error on dev sr0, logical block 106315, async page read [ OK ]Started Show Plymouth Boot Screen. [ OK ]Reached target path. [ OK ]Reached target Basic System. Starting Dracut Emergency Shell... Warning: /dev/root does not exist Gerating "/run/inittramfs/rdsosreport.txt"
I'm using a hard drive which had been formatted under Windows, but I deleted the Partitions on the drive and deleted the Volume so that Fedora/Amahi could format and use the entire drive.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Are you following the instructions at http://docs.amahi.org for Fedora 23?

I am. It dies after the Boot Screen (after I select Install Fedora 23). I never get to the Language Selection screen. I've tried it now on 2 different hard drives and get the same result.

Verify that the image you downloaded is not corrupt.

I re-downloaded the install ISO, burned another CD (with Verify) in Windows 10. Using Windows File Explorer, the files on the disk image look fine. Got the same error at the same point in the installation process.

Odd that you are having this issue.

I presume the laptop meets the minimum hardware requirements including a 64-bit processor.

Recommend you verify. Might consider trying the USB install method to see if that works for you.

All specs exceeded and had already disabled the wireless network adapter.

I tried the UBS route and got Warning: /dev/root does not exist. Does the hard drive need to be prepped in some manner?

Not sure if it's the hard drive causing issues.

You might try checking out this tutorial: How to wipe your PC with Windows 10.

Thanks for trying, BigFoot, wiped disks, same result. This product is not for me. If the installation is this hard, I have little faith in the product itself. The old saying "You don't get a second chance to make a good first impression." applies here and is telling me to get out while get getting's good.

Sorry you had so many issues and are giving up.

I will say I don't believe it's the software, but something to do with your hardware or install media that is causing issues. We've had thousands of installs with very few users having issues. Most are newbies like you.

The errors you are getting may indicate an incompatibility with Fedora. You never got to the point of installing Amahi, so you cannot really assess whether it's good or bad. Your experience has been with the OS installation, so I really don't think that is a fair comment.

Hope you find something that works for you.

I will close this thread now.
