CLOSED: Upgrade from Amahi 7

Postby wyzard » Wed Sep 14, 2016 5:33 am

Good morning.

I've been running Amahi 7 for over two years. It run great but thought I should upgrade to the latest version. I have alot of videos, photos and music on my server.

What is the best way to upgrade and ensure i don't loose any of videos, photos or music.

Thanks.

Are you using Greyhole? Keeping you files safe depends on your setup.

BTW, support to upgrade from Amahi 7 to Amahi 9 is not supported. However, you can try doing an upgrade from Amahi 7 to Amahi 8, then go from Amahi 8 to Amahi 9. This has not been thoroughly tested and not recommended.

We always encourage users to do a new install as it mitigates any issues. If something goes wrong during the upgrade, you will be forced to do a new install anyway.

Take a look at the HDA OS Migration Guide. It was created for just such cases as yours.

Ok. So I've read through the instructions that you provided. Just want to be sure that by following these instructions it will retain all my movies, music and photo files.

Thanks again.

As long as the files are on the Greyhole drives, you should be fine.

Recommend you disconnect those drives before doing the install.

Everything upgraded . Not seeing any of my files that were on the greyhole drives, although they are saying that 526GB of space is used? does it take some time for them to show back up? or am I missing something?

Thanks.

Your LZ is empty. Ensure you recreated all the shares exactly as they were on Amahi 7. Then run a fsck:

Code: Select all

greyhole -f
That should recreate the links and such to the shares.

Might want to consult the reconnect existing Greyhole storage pool guidance.

EDIT: Did you follow the HDA OS Migration Guide?

That got it! Thanks.

I know this question is a little off topic in here, but I installed Plex, but it doesn't seem be running when I go to the website. Anything specifically I need to do with that.

Thanks again for all the help.

Glad that sorted it out.

As for plex-media-server App, you might want to check the server is running. Should show in the Dashboard, Settings, Server section.

I will close this thread. If you need further assistance with the app, please start a new one.
