2007 Mac Pro Installation Problems

Postby alrach » Sat Oct 24, 2015 12:53 am

Hi Everyone,

I've been trying without much luck to install Amahi on my 2007 Mac Pro. Here's where I am so far,

Fresh install of OS X Lion,
Boot Camp Assistant to split the boot HDD into two partitions,
Successful install of REFind boot manager,

From here I cannot boot the Fedora 21 CD. I assume it's because this Mac Pro has 32bit EFI firmware despite having 64bit CPUs. Is there any way I can get Fedora to boot on my Mac Pro?

If not is there another Linux distribution that I can install and run Amahi on?

Thanks in advance guys and girls!

Alistair

Sorry to say that if it's not a true 64-bit machine, Amahi cannot be installed. We only support Fedora 21.

You could try installing Amahi 7 using this guidance then follow the Amahi 8 upgrade path listed there. If that does not work, then you are unfortunately out of options.

The computer itself is a true 64-bit machine, it has two dual core 64-bit Xeons. It's only the EFI that is not 64-bit, surely someone must have gotten Amahi installed on an old Mac Pro?

The path I noted is the only option that I am aware since we only support 64-bit with Amahi 8.
