Amahi 8 and Amahi 7

Postby garlar4 » Mon Sep 14, 2015 2:52 pm

I am looking at running my old Amahi 7 32bit system as a 2nd hda. I looked up how to on the wiki page https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/How_to ... me_network
And it has a heading that it is out of date still. Will this still work? Can you run a 2nd HDA when running one in 8 and one in 7?

Thank you

This is unsupported. I have heard there have been issues from other users. We don't recommend it.

Is there a reason you want to run both?

Maybe there is someone in the community who has had success.

wanted to use the second as a back up unit and also email system using rainloop. and the possibility of using it for web hosting my sites too.

Any help would be great.

Thank you

Why not do all that with one machine?

Might be best to use a normal server without Amahi for the backup and email system. There are many tutorials for doing this and would eliminate your issue with running two HDAs on the same network.

Instead of having both be AMahi boxes on the same network, you might benefit from making the old Amahi7 box a regular SAMBA or NFS share exclusively to the Amahi 8 box, so that your Amahi 8 box can manage all the files. Achieving this may not be encompassed in the Wiki (yet) but It's easily doable if you google for some pointers.
