Turn off DHCP in Speedtouch 585 modem/router

Postby nutcracker23 » Sat Aug 15, 2009 1:44 am

HI all. I am about to install Amahi for the first time and am preparing myself with as much info as I can. I read in the instruction manual about turning off dhcp in the router and using the HDA instead and am happy to give this a try. When I check in my router there is no user available setting in the web interface to allow this. A search around the net for further info shows that this can be done using telnet and the CLI to do this. I have acquired a lot on info on the CLI options and settings but it is a bit too technical for me to do with any confidence. Can anyone who has perhaps done this before give as clear as possible instructions as to what commands to give. My home setup (without as yet the HDA) is working fine at the moment and I am reluctant to mess too deeply with things I only partly understand without some further guidance. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

if setting the DNS in the router is easier, you can try that.

set it to point to your Amahi HDA's ip address.

you will miss out in network booting, but you can try like that if easier.

the chances of finding someone here in these forums experienced on this router (which seems somewhat common but not that much), is low ..

this guide on port forwarding may help or show how some things are done in that router: http://www.portforward.com/english/rout ... efault.htm
My HDA: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz on MSI board, 8GB RAM, 1TBx2+3TBx1

Thanks. I realised when asking that it was a bit of a shot in the dark. I might try playing a bit with the CLI in the router (having saved the default config for backup) as I would really like to have the HDA fully functional if possible.
