Putting AMAHI on HP Home Server

Postby rmducks » Mon Mar 02, 2015 10:27 pm

In my attempt to install AMAHI 7 on my HP MediaSmart EX495 Home Server, everything went well until it says ignore the following steps
unless you want to put it on a new machine. The files it mentions and what to do with them did not exist. Do they have to be created in this case? I tried to do that, but when I pulled the drives and placed the new drive in the lowest bay, it refused to finish booting up and had the far right LED flashing. I would like to give it another go, but at this juncture am at a loss.

Thanks Marv

Unfortunately we do not provide support for specific hardware.

What is in the wiki was contributed by a user. Hopefully someone with the same hardware can jump in and assist you.

I have been trying to do the same thing and running into what seems to be the same symptoms.

The process that I was following was to install Fedora 19 and Amahi on a new drive attached to a spare laptop and then place the drive in the bottom slot of the HP Home Server. The instructions that I was following was a combination of what I found at the following links:
http://www.howtogeek.com/63253/upgrade- ... ith-amahi/
https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/Instal ... art_Server

I am able to get the Amahi server up and running when the hard drive is in the laptop, but when I move it to the home server, it won't load and the server does not appear in the router device list. The first link was written using a prior version of Fedora and the files it mentions aren't exactly the same. I'm a unix novice, but with some digging I found what I thought was the correct file to change, but that modification didn't work. When I put the disk back in the laptop, it still booted fine. I was also not able to find the file that it mentions deleting.

Problem I see with the guidance you are following is it's for Ubuntu, not Amahi 7. They are totally different so that guidance will not work.

Not sure if installing HDA on HP Proliant Gen8 Microserver guidance will help, but thought I would point it out.

If you can use a USB Flash Drive on the server, you could try Fedora 19 USB install tutorial. Althought it's not officially supported, I have tested it many times with no issues.

Thanks for the input. I'll try one of the other options to not move the drive and see if that works.
