Trouble installing Amahi from USB

Hi guys, I wonder if you could help me, I'm having a bit of an issue installing Amahi, finding it very frustrating to be falling at the first hurdle!
Basically, I'm trying to install Amahi from a USB onto a system that's already running Debian. I want to remove Debian completely, and just use the machine as a home server.
When I turn on the computer with the USB inserted and the hard drive connected, it boots straight into GRUB and then Debian like it usually would.
If I enter any BIOS key commands at boot (to change boot priority or get to the BIOS menu etc), I just get a black screen.
If I disconnect the Debian HD and force it to boot from USB by making it the only bootable device available, it seems to work, but then I get a message saying "secure boot not enabled" and then what looks like some really squashed text at the top of the screen.
I've checked the md5 hash of the iso and it is correct, and I've tried installing Fedora with the intent of installing Amahi on top afterwards, but getting the same problems as above.
Any ideas what the problem could be? A quick Google suggests I need to disable the UEFI boot setting, but I can't do this cause I can't get to the BIOS menu. I'm sure my keyboard is working, because if I don't press anything at all, it boots to Debian, whereas if I do, I just get a black screen, so it is doing something!
Thanks in advance!
