Installing Amahi on portable drive

Hey guys,

I've got an HP N40L microserver at the moment, and I'd realistically like to use all 6 drive spaces for greyhole hard disks.

The two ideas I had were:

1) Install Amahi on a 16gb USB2/3 stick
2) Install Amahi on an E-sata drive enclosure where it would house a small hard disk

The questions I have are:

1. Is is feasible? (aka, can I do this without problems)
2. Is it suitable? (performance, reliability)
3. Are the any other options that can be recommended?

Thanks guys,

Alex

Not sure if it would work, but anything is possible.
1) Install Amahi on a 16gb USB2/3 stick
Running any OS on a USB stick is asking for trouble with all the constant reads/writes, it will not last long. They are not designed to run a full time OS on 24x7. I have read a few articles about this too in the past.
2) Install Amahi on an E-sata drive enclosure where it would house a small hard disk
This may work but I say why bother? Why not just use this as one of the Greyhole drives and keep one drive in your system for the OS.
The questions I have are:

1. Is is feasible? (aka, can I do this without problems)
I would say it'd make more sense to just add external drives for the Greyhole pool. Best to keep the OS within the unit itself for best and most reliable performance.
2. Is it suitable? (performance, reliability)
Not really in my opinion.
3. Are the any other options that can be recommended?
None come to mind.
