SOLVED: It's really time for full USB installation support

USB install worked fine for me. I used Imagewriter on my Windows PC to burn the 64bit Amahi 7 iso to a 4gb thumbdrive. It took two tries: the drive is a bit old, but on the second try the installer was able to verify my install image and it installed like a champ. If you choose to follow in my footsteps *DO* run the verify then install option. You will likely save yourself some heartache by doing so.

Now if I can just work out how to configure the NTFS formatted drive I have attached to my system to allow me to write files to it from my Windows desktop using PHP Navigator. But that is on me as a Linux newbie.

I'll see what I can do. The only real trick to it was having to remove all existing partitions from the USB stick using Diskpart prior to using ImageWriter to burn the ISO. I found that if there was a partition present ImageWriter would fail during the burn.

I've been trying for several days now to get Amahi 7 installed on an HP Proliant Microserver (no DVD) via USB. I've used unetbootin and the Express CD iso but no luck. I've tried the full DVD install. It boots and loads the installer but fails at partitioning with an unknown error. There are several wiki articles about this but none have worked on this machine. I'll keep tinkering. I'm a linux novice but maybe I can figure it out. If so I'll post the results.

Interestingly, Ubuntu and Amahi 6 installed flawlessly on this machine via USB using unetbootin.

I have heard very few who were successful with Fedora 19 and USB install. I have not had a chance to test myself.

I'll like to add my vote for USB install. My tiny machine does not have dvd drive. It's supposed to be headless..... So thusly, I haven't started installing Ahami yet...

I have to chime in and agree, my new gen 8 HP microserver didn't come with a DVD drive, and I haven't been able to get the USB install work with Amahi 7. I'm going to install Fedora first, then install Amahi on it. Would be easier if Amahi supported USB drive installs. Next version maybe?

Anyone want to jump in and test out the current wiki guidance? If it does not work, then we can at least try other methods.

We rely heavily on the user community to assist with these endeavors. The current guidance was provided by a few users.

I tried this (https://wiki.amahi.org/index.php/USB_Install) several times before giving up. I get to the point where the installer requires partitioning of the drives. I always get the exclamation point on selecting the installation source, but I don't get any option to select the USB drive.

I still haven't successfully re-installed amahi 7 on my Microserver, so if we have any suggestions, now is a good time for me to try them out.
